Free Guitar Software

Free Guitar Software: Article #1
by David Nader

Did you know there are FREE programs out there that can help you learn your favorite songs? Many of these software programs will play the tablature and notation back to you, so you can hear the proper way of playing a song. Guitar Pro 6, the program I use costs around $69.00. I recommend this program for all students, but in economic times like these, why not try the free programs instead!

Here is a list of some thus far:

TUX GUITAR

With TuxGuitar, you will be able to compose music using the following features

* Tablature editor
* Score Viewer
* Multitrack display
* Autoscroll while playing
* Note duration management
* Various effects (bend, slide, vibrato, hammer-on/pull-off)
* Support for triplets (5,6,7,9,10,11,12)
* Repeat open and close
* Time signature management
* Tempo management
* Imports and exports GP3, GP4 and GP5 files.

POWERTAB (or POWER TAB)

I never got this program to work on Windows 7 64bit, but maybe you will have better luck. The tabs for Powertab are free, easy to find, and many of them are 100% correct, which is hard to find on the internet these days. If you can get this program to work, I highly recommend it.

Now on that site, it says that the Powertab Archive is closed. Here are some links for FREE POWERTABS!
